Default Gears and lockers and tires

recently I got my 32" all terrains tires and I gotta say I love em, they make a world of difference from my old 30" all seasons. did some research though and got a little concerned about my gearing. my current gear is 3.55 and I'm looking at putting a Spartan locker on there pretty soon. am I going to need a considered a gear swap or will I be fine with 32"s and a locker and eventually a 3.5 inch lift on the good ol 55's?. i figered i got my question awnsered so lets see how long this thread'll go.

I ran 33s on 3:08s for 4.5 years without a problem. I run 33s with 3:55s now without a problem. Are you asking if your gear ratio is okay with the locker you want, or just if youll be fine running that size tire with your gear ratio?

Just my thoughts....Depends on whether you use it for towing. My recomendation is if towing, yes, change of gears. No towing is your option.

Considering some trucks came with 265 70 17 stock you will be fine.

You can get away with 3.55's on 33's. Not an ideal combination, but it is acceptable for daily driving and light towing. Although if you size up the tires more, you will definitely need gears.

That combo will also wear out your trans quicker. Shouldn't be a big deal it's your DD and you drive like a normal person.

I had 3.55 and 33s and hated it. Eventually went with 4.11 and Detroit trutrac. Then later 35s. On my old 2wd

both lol, im prioritizing, if i need bigger gears i want to get those before the locker.my normal driving habits include of coarse daily driving, hauling stuff in my bed up to 300 pounds worth, the occasional tow 1-2 times a month, and muddin 0-5 times a month depending on how Texas feels. its not like i burn rubber or anything...

well, I'm on 35's on stock ratios, my truck stock came with 235's, when I bought it, it had 245s tho. but in any case, I haven't changed the gears yet, and I am on 35's. I am going to change them tho because I can, although I don't feel I need to.

I have 265/70r17s and I assume 3.55s. I love the RPMs and power levels right where they're at, so when I go to 33s I'm going to find a set of 3.73 diffs to throw in. I'd love to find something with a factory locker, is there such a thing as a 31 spline 8.8 3.73 with the locker? What trucks should I be looking at in the junkyard?

You could get a 3:73 ls. That's the only thing close to a locker for our year trucks from the factory.
