Default Gear Selector is off by 1 notch

The indicator is off by 1. When I'm in park it says R. When I'm in reverse it shows N. So on and so forth. Everything works fine and it is no big deal for me but I'm worried that it could cause problems if someone ever borrows it. Where do I start?

Check at the dealership for a parts breakdown, ask about the shift tube. Its sounds like it is on the way south.

just look under the column at the shifter linkage, my dad's F350 got to where you had to pull on the shifter funny to get it into gear. All I did was tighten up a few torx head bolts that had loosened on a couple of the connections and it worked good as new!
