Gear indicator in dash is off

The indicator is adjustable unless broken. A tiny cable is connected to the pointer, the other end is adjustable where it mounts to the column. Some have a slotted hole for adj and the later ones have a star wheel that you turn. Its a very simple thing, unless the pointer is broken, then you need to spend money.

Can you put it in park? Mine was off , but it would not go into park or D-1, I found a loose hex screw gold in color about half way down the steering columb. Just tighten it and all was good.

Sometimes the spring in the Gear Indicator just gets old.
Me and a friend took my gauge cluster off around the steering column, and took the indicator apart. There is a clear piece of plastic attached to [mine was anyway] orange wire, to a spring.
We just took the hoop off the plastic, tightened the hoop a bit, and all was good.
Really depends on the year, you've got a '97, I've got a '98.
