Maybe in a E150. But I can gaurantee that the 10th 97-03 Trucks lock the converter in OD. Otherwise they would grenade them selves before they hit 100k miles do to the heat the converter make when unlocked. So try again Butter Cup.

97-03 E150, Expedition, F150 V6/V8 are using the same type of tranny 4speed (4R70W).

Not all use the 4r70w. Also they all lock the converter in OD. Regardless if Cruise control is being used or not.

On a side note quit giving information. You clearly dont have the knowledge.

Yeah...right.....I know I can maintain 50-55mph by simply releasing the accelerator.

As I said, I will try it this week. I'm not going to say you are wrong or right until I have proof.

2002 f150 with 5.4, stock sized tires. Tow tune enabled via edge. Less than 100 pounds in the bed. Only myself in the vehicle. My current avg mpg is 10.5-12.5. Max ever achieved was a hair over 13, mostly highway.

I drive short trips, typically less than 30 miles a day,2 lights and 2 stop signs. I'll fill up after work and refill at 60 miles. Speeds never go over 55, half of driving is at 30-35.

If I get over 17mpg I will consider you correct as that would be a 50% increase. Still a far cry from 30 but given the factors at hand, i consider that acceptable. I'll follow up on Thursday.

20 gallons of gas is 250 lbs. Don't think you're getting better mileage by keeping the tank constantly filled to the brim. Really you're getting an extra passenger.

When you do get gas, try to do it earlier in the morning before the sun has a chance to heat up the underground tank. Gasoline is denser and less gaseous at lower temperatures, lower temperatures=denser volume of gas. Also pump it slowly. Along with the line that brings fuel from the pump, there's a vapor return line. If it's warm outside or you're pumping gas quickly, you're stirring up a lot more vapor that goes in your tank with your gas and then is sucked right back out by vacuum line in the same nozzle.

UPS drivers JAM in those box trucks to get up to speed quickly and stay there, it's supposed to help. But you won't typically see them flying up a grade on a highway even if they have the power. 55 uphill makes a huge difference in fuel efficiency in any vehicle, but particularly those trucks.

I'm sure there's a million other things that UPS does for fuel efficiency. It isn't just one thing, it's all of the little things that are going to really add up and make a noticeable difference at the pump.

Well, that does it. I'm going to get in my truck right now and drive it just for the fun of it! I'm going to run the tank almost empty, and make sure I make only LEFT turns! Dagnabbit. I ain't letting all this mpg mess take one more bit o' fun away from me! I ain't rich enough to afford a heap of gasoline, that's why I drive a 13 year old truck! But, I do like driving it, and like getting good mpg, but, but, boys, hey, we got to have some fun driving our trucks.
