FX4 or Reg 4x4 whats the difference?

will run you OVER
Ive been wondering the same thing for a while. I think that the FX4 is made to be used off road more often than those who just use the 4x4. 4x4 is there in case you want to go offroad when you might get stuck. Im just guessin..

This is going off sheer guess. I know the interior is a bit different than just the regular 4x4. Also, i think it has different gears, my Fx4 has 3:73, if i recall correctly, the regular 4x4 comes 3:55. Couldnt tell ya if the suspension is different though, the FX4 only comes 5.4 (i think)...Basically the FX4 is 4x4 with the FX package. Thats what the FX2 is anyway, its an XLT 2wd with the FX package.

dplummer is right, the 4x4 comes with 3.55 and fx4 with 3.73 LS the difference mechanically is the fx4 has name brand off road shocks which are stiffer for off roading of course, but to dampen the ride of the fx4 to make it still appealing and pleasant to drive is the tires. The 4x4 uses like a c-rated I think while the fx4 uses an e-rated, e-rated being a softer tire. This way the fx4 will have a nearly identical ride as the 4x4. Also, you can get a 4x4 in just about every model xl,stx, xlt, lariat and king ranch, while the fx4 is exclusive. The fx4 also has skid plates, while the 4x4 doesn't.

i think the fx4 trucks have a 17" wheel too... and ive only seen em in ext cab short box config. they do have the bigger rear end and a 5.4 also... could be wrong on the 5.4 though.
my 4x4 xlt does have a 3.55 but also has a stock limited slip... ha and buckets with a console. mines definitely a different duck

They also came in many configurations. Some came with the 4.6, and also not just shortbed extended cab. The Fx4 I bought my rims from was a Stepside regular cab...my friend has a Styleside long box regular cab, and they also came in crew cabs. Here's a 4.6 Screw - http://lincoln.craigslist.org/cto/1103598366.html
Basically, the Fx4 package included LT265/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires, alloy wheels, Rancho shock absorbers, 3.55 or 3.73 axle gearing and extra skid plates. The package added $860 to the truck's base price.
