Better gas mileage tips?
Hey, I have an '03 5.4 liter Triton, I was wondering how I could milk the best gas mileage out of it that’s possible. Chip tuning, cold air intake, ect… Any suggestions?

Interesting…. So are you saying that getting it tuned for better fuel economy and/or a cold air intake would just be a waste and probably not make that much of a difference?

Your truck already has a CAI, the stock intake is just that. It draws from the fender well bringing in outside air. The Gotts mod can help to reduce some restriction in the system and make it just as good if not better than an after market system.
Programming is hit or miss for mileage. Every truck responds differently to tuning. Some see nice gains of 1-2mpg, some see none. Going into tuning with mpgs in mind is the wrong angle to look at it. No matter what there will be more power and better drive-ability so go into in looking for power but, mpgs are largely dictated by driving habits and several other factors. It really depends 1. how well the truck is maintained and 2. how you drive. You can negate any gains a programmer may have if those two factors are skewed.
All this also depends on how much you drive. Justifying spending $450 on a programmer may not pay back if you drive 5000 miles a year and if you see a gain. If you drive 20000 miles a year and see a gain, then it might pay.

The best way to increase mileage is
1. Inflate tires to correct poundage
2. Make sure brakes are not dragging and bearings are in good shape
3. Remove excess weight from the truck(this includes bigger than stock tires)
4. Remove lifts
5. Drive it like a grandma(this will yield the most mpg's)

Okay, so pretty much I’ll forget the tuning idea and cold air intake, lol. I’m not sure what numbers I’m getting, I’ll check that once this tank runs out, but I do have a tonneau cover and drive like a grandma. I do have larger than stock tires, not too big, and I would assume they wouldn’t make that much of a difference... Thanks for the tips guys.
