You should get a Hane's manual. They have pictures that really help you see what to do. Basically you put the tool over the filter tube (line) and push it into the fuel line to release the line. One end may have a retainer clip that will have to be removed first. Get the book It's worth it. You don't want force anything and break it, that will cost you big time. btw, the book will tell you to disable your fuel pump to get the fuel pressure out of the line, I just let mine sit for a few hours and did it without doing that step. The line didn't have any pressure on it after letting it set. Check out these threads. https://www.f150forum.com/f12/fuel-filter-106/ and https://www.f150forum.com/showthread...ht=fuel+filter

Fuel Filter Replacement
Use the 5/16 size of the tool. On the input line to filter use a small tool to "pick up" the tab while working the tool into the connector. It's aggravating the first time. Mine had overspray from the chassis paint job.
The output side: Disconnect the steel clip BEFORE inserting the toon into the connector. This one is in a difficult spot if you have large hands.
Take your time, the tool will do the job.
The fuel I drained from the old filter was black(22,457 miles on truck).
