I just did an 01 motor swap into my 97 4x4... There are mods you will have to do if you want to keep the 01 PI heads, but I can do a write-up for you, if you wish... Keep your existing wires, including coil packs and spark plug wires... The only issue I had was my 97 motor had the 8 bolt crank, and the 01 motor had a 6 bolt crank... Of course, the 01 motor came from and auto, so I had to source a 6 bolt flywheel from an 02, but that was more delay than an issue...

The short answer is the 01 motor will work in your 98 just nicely...

Cheers!!!

Oh really, so it doesn't just bolt in??? Ok well then a write up would be great but I will let you know if the deal goes through and if it does then, I will greatly appreciate a "how to" Funny tho how ford did changes like that unless an engine fron an auto has 6 bolts and from a truck has 8 maybe????

Well, it does bolt right in, but there are other mods that you have to do... From memory, the coolant routing has to be changed... There is an additional coolant sensor for the 97 (your 98 is probably the same) that the 01 doesn't have... The oil pressure sensor is different (easy swap)... You should retain your coil packs and wires to avoid changing computers and re-doing wiring for the COP's... Most have encountered issues with drilling and taping the second coolant sensor in the coolant passage of the intake manifold... I didn't go that route because Ford makes this neat little assembly that bolts on the rear of the PS cylinder head in Mark VIII's... It, fortunately for us, has a sensor port that the second sensor fits into perfectly... The only "hard" issue here is pulling the PS run of the 97 (98) wiring harness apart to re-locate that sensor connection to the rear of the motor... I did not cut or splice any wires at all... Everything I used were Ford factory items, which was a goal for ease of replacement... The heater core hose ports on the intake manifold were re-located on the 01 motor, but that is also where the Mark VIII part comes in as well... It is a heater core port for the Mark VIII... You can cut, intall a "T", and have two lines for the heater core, or cap the front and stick with just the rear, like I did...

Okay, I'll just do the write-up, with pics so all can see what I'm explaining here...

Cheers all!!!

Good day,

That isn't really the whole write-up I wanted to post... I actually did the write-up, but I was 41 charcters over the 10,000 max... No big deal... I just condensed a few things... Then I got an error stating that I had to delete 14 of the 24 pics I wanted to include... I'm still waiting on word from the administrators to allow me to include all 24 pics... I actually got it posted on the other f150 forum under the same username... I'd still like to post it here!!

*Admin, how about those perms please?*

Cheers!!
