Default Chaning dash lights

Does anyone know how to change the dash lights, like for the speedometer, rpm, ect?

Have to pull the cluster out. Once you get the whole cluster out of the dash the bulbs will be on the backside. My buddy just did mine a couple weeks ago while I was doing my radiator swap and I didn't pay any attention on how he got it out and how many bulbs were in it. I do know that it only took him about 15-20 minutes though. Just uses regular 194 bulbs.

Depends on the year of the truck actually. The earlier ones did use the 194/T10 bulbs, but the later ones switched to the T5 bulbs. Mine is a 2003 and it uses the T5s for illumination. Just be sure to check before you go buying them. I wish i had the T10s...

Sorry bout that. Didn't realize they changed the bulbs. I forgot that the 97-98s were a different breed then the 99-03s. I've got a 6/96 so mines different in a lot of ways.

Yeah, it was really a bit of a disappointment about the bulb size change. I get hot spots, and its pretty annoying. The HVAC controls take 194s, and thats real nice and even with no hot spots. Because of this, i have something that i have been wondering for a while. Would it be at all possible to convert the T5 illuminated clusters to a T10? I know it wouldnt be an easy task, but i know it would make a nice difference.

Well the 194s in the cluster also have hot spots. You can also use 168 bulbs. One is supposed to be brighter than the other. I just bought 194s because they had more in stock. But I think I have about two or three dimmer spots on my cluster. Not a huge deal though.

It just hit me... do you think the 194 sockets would fit?

No there larger. And a 194 wouldn't fit in the cluster. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the 74's so why try to change them.
