Default Flat bed

Hello everyone, I am going to begin taking on the project of building a flat bed for my 1998 truck. It had a 6ft bed on it originally but the mounts were so rusted and the bed itself that I had to scrap it. I just wanted to see if anyone had any creative ideas to get me started on this project. Post anything its all appreciated!

My 97 is the same way, my bolt holes are completely broke off the bed and theirs only 1 bolt holding it on and that is starting to break loose as well. I plain on buying 2x 6x4`s 6ft long and bolt them to the frame. Then add 4x4`s from side to side. With pressure treated planks for top part. I estimated 200$ worth of wood which isnt bad. That includes 2 sides 6 inches high as well as 2 foot high wall by the cab. Then paint it all black and buy some cheep lights from Auto Zone or Napa and wire my break/turn signals into them.

Why don't you just weld in new sheet metal wher it is rusted.

Didn't realize this thread is 2 years old

On the upside flatbed Matt got a chance to show off his fine work on his flatbed. That's a good looking piece of work. There's a guy I've seen around here that has a bed like that but he put a wall up front and then sides that step down the farther back it goes. Looks pretty good.

It will never look right because of the way the rear of the cab goes over the front of the bed.

I disagree, I think if its planned out and done right with a front wall and sides it could work out nice.
