Tim,
check my post #44 above.
I had similar problem after fixing O-rings.
Make sure you have a vacuum at the unit.

On one side of the plug, it has a rubber tip that sticks out & is smaller in diameter then the rest of the plug. On the other side of the plug, it has a small pin hole in the middle of a rubber diaphragm, but it does not stick out--the spring seems to be made to fit on this "hole" side of the plug. So I reassembled with the rubber tip down of the plug down, pin hole side up, then the spring, then the armature. Don't want to change to check if I have right, as my tabs are already breaking off.

Is this the way that you did yours? I could just have a bad unit, but just want to make sure before I replace with a used one.

Thanks--Tim

I fixed my EATC with these instructions and wish that I had done it sooner. Took me approx. 1.5 hours only because I was paranoid of getting it wrong. Everything blows where it should now and the Louisiana heat is a little more bearable.

Thanks for the post!

Default No answers to blowing just out of vents?

Hello I just want to say this is a fantastic forum.
I just bought a 2003 f150 4x4 Lariat supercrew.
It has been hot here so just used air conditioning.
Last night because of high humidity I tried to use defrost.
That is when I noticed no matter what setting I tried defrost, floor etc".
Air would only come out dash vents! Heat and air works great but just blows out dash panel vents. I was wondering if the O rings mentioned in this thread would fix this problem also>?
Has anyone with this problem tried this fix?
thanks for any help.

I'm gonna say look under you dash on driver side. There's a lil black canister with a red vacuum line hooked To it. Above it it has a actuating arm. When it's all the way down it's on vents. All the way up it's in defrost. A lot of times when people have the jump to defrost problem they will tie something to the arm to hold it down... There fore it's stuck on vents.... You can look for this... And if this is not it well I'm gonna say your problem is the blend door that controls direction of the air is stuck/broke

Wow thanks rcruz,
sure enough you were right!
There was a black zip tie keeping the actuating arm down.
I wiggled it off and now everthing blows out of the defrost.
so I guess now I need to do the O ring fix to get it to work properly?
I hope that fixes my problem and everything will work like it should?
thanks again rcruz!!

Well, speaking of being a suckeggedmule, as I am wont to do, maybe, just maybe, I have finally found wha's wrong with my '02 changing from vent to defrost on acceleration! I started a thread asking about how to fix it, but nobody had an answer. My goal tomorrow is to try this o ring thingamabob fix. I'll let y'all know...

Oh me, just my luck! My EATC, where the little pistons (wha' they called? Solenoids, adenoids?) is spot welded on, not screws
