Fixed the EATC defrost only

Whole process from removing/re-install the unit to replacement of o-rings takes all of 30 minutes or less.
Hardest part is bending the tabs back down without ripping up the little air filters -- in fact, have a back up plan for replacing an air filter if you tear one.
I finally resorted to tapping strongly on the tabs with a "heavy" pliers in order to get them back in place, instead of just grabbing hold and bending them back down.
Really is one of the more satisfying little fixes I have ever done, considering what an annoyance it is to not have dash vent air plus cost of a new control unit plus how little time/effort it takes to fix.
There are places on ebay that will "recondition" your unit for 100+ bucks but I'm betting they actually do little more than just replace those bloody o-rings.

...btw, just like a previous poster, I now have 96 of those o-rings left over if anyone needs some. Will never use them for anything else, happy to share.
Or you can order your own pack of 100.
Got them for like 10 bucks including shipping.

I'm having an issue where the air will ONLY come out of the dash vents, I have to close them all to get any sort of flow leaking out of the 'foot' vents
no matter what I set it on it blows out the dash vents
does anyone know if this fix will help my problem or am I looking at something completely different?

You rock
I've read a number of posts on this simple, AC head unit EATC repair. This is one of the best one due to the pictures and the detailed description. Just completed the repair for the second time. First attempt did Not work so I just repeated it all. It worked great. The AC blow cold through the main vents now. All air positions work great! I'm so pleased! I'll be looking to is forum for other fixes down the road.

Thank You! Thank You!!
I did it, I did it!! I took my truck to Western Auto and they wanted $700 to fix my a/c, so after they told me what they wanted to replace (the eatc module), and that it was $580 from Ford, plus $120 labor, I told them that I would shop around before I let them fix it. Then I searched the web for a used one or rebuilt one and came across this thread and decided to try to fix it myself. I figured the worse that could happen was I wouldn't be able to and would have to replace it anyway! So I bought a bag of 9/32 o-rings (10 ct for $1.99) at Tractor Supply and it took me about 2 hours to complete the job. And now I have freezing cold air coming out of my vents.....and I'm loving it!! Oh and by the way, I am a 51 year old grandma....not a mechanic!

On my 2003 F150, all I had to do was pop the trim (plastic around the radio and a/c unit on dash) off, it takes a little pulling to get it off, but it all comes lose. I just left mine hanging there instead of unplugging the passenger airbag light from it. After that is off, use the T-20 torx (star shaped screwdriver) to take off the 4 screws holding the a/c module to the dash, Then pull it forward and unplug it (I took pics of it before I unplugged it , just to make sure I plugged it back correctly). It has 3 places to unplug, 2 electric ones and 1 vacuum plug above those.
Hope this helps....it sure is worth it when you are done!! Have a great day!

Sweet. Just fixed mine while I had a few minutes at work. I couldn't find the o-rings locally so instead of waiting for them to come in I just used Teflon tape around the existing o-rings. I know it's not the preferred method but couldn't take another day without A/C in this south Louisiana heat. Working like a champ now.
