Default f150 or ranger?

hey everyone, Im debating between a 97-03 F150 Scab, or a ranger. either one I want a 4x4, but I need to consider gas mileage, and which one will last longer. Im only 16, and looking for a vehicle that will last me a few years. I was just wondering how the rangers are compared to the 150's off road. I hunt alot, so I need something that can get me through some deep mud. thanks for the help.

Especially since your only 16, i'd say F-150. Rangers just ain't where its at lol. Plus, I know SO many people that've flipped those little trucks, rangers, s-10's etc. And even if you get a V8 if you get the 4.6 you'll get decent mileage. Nothing amazing, but better than most full size trucks. Now ofcourse as soon as you slap on big tires, a lift or any of that (if you plan on that) your mileage will plummet. But, when you think about it, the mileage would be just as bad in a Ranger if not worse because a smaller motor and gears will be pushing such big equipment. Anyway, just something to think about...

O!, and as far as the life of either one of these goes, your should be fine with either, just take care of it. I know, your 16, you gotta hammer down and what not, but just be smart and they'll last a long time, be dumb, and you've ruined a big investment. That goes for anything, Ford, Chevy, Dodge...

I tend to differ....if I didnt have teenage kids of my own I'd still be driving my Ranger....in short it was a awesome 4.0 4x4 off road and I loved it

.....but they are both good trucks and it really just depends on what you need/want.They both are great trucks.

I agree! I miss my old Ranger! It would smoke my 5.4 hands down! The 4.0 with the 5 speed auto and 4.10 gear's are quick! It got between 16-19 mpg and was a very good tow vehicle. I towed a mustang to the drag strip on a car trailer a few times and pulled great! Obviously you are only 16 years old and still in high school! I'd say get a 4.0L Ranger. DO NOT GET THE 3.0 or 4 cylinder, they are WORTHLESS.

To be honest, I wish I still had my Ranger! It would be paid off and be getting close to 18 or 19 mpg instead of like 12-14 consistantly! Ranger are good little trucks. They are very capable off-road. They are narrow and much lighter than an F-150 and have very low gearing! They're a blast to drive
