Doing this suggestion sounds like alot more work, and don't think with the engine in, you could even do it. I did the dash remove and replace in about 6 hrs, really not that big a deal, the steering column only drops down out of the way you don't have to remove it.

i did, i bought a cheap lordco heater to save 30$..... new one from ford is good to go though (knock on wood)
