Default Reverse camera

Hi from the UK

I've got a 5.4 2001 extended cab 4x4 that arrived recently and is being sorted ready for the road and I fancy a reversing camera on it since it's a bit bigger than my mustang...

I've found a couple of mirrors that have the camera display in it which look like it will make things easier but they do 2 sorts,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/car-rearvi...-/181422396868

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Auto-dimmi...-/171005913786

Currently it has the type with the dipping leaver underneath so I don't even know if the auto dipping one will work properly or is even needed as it has the factory tinted rear & rear side windows

Or, are there any other alternatives that will ship to the UK?

Thanks

Adrian.

The auto dimming feature is great. I wouldnt choose one without it personally.

The screen is pretty small on the mirrors, and $$$ for what you get , at least with auto dimming version. For not much more, can have a new stereo with larger display for the camera.

Either get a stand alone monitor or a double din touch screen head unit. The mirrors are junk.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

To be honest, I don't fancy a stand alone monitor as I don't really want to screw into things to mount it and at the moment, modifying the dash to fit a different head unit isn't really what I want to be doing either

The expensive one of the 2 mirrors is only £77 GBP so not exactly expensive, I might still give it a try and see what it's like (I might be surprised... lol), I really only want it for reassurance of where I'm putting the truck in relation to things rather than to actually guide me into a space.

I think I would need a slightly different camera for it though, I've seen ones that do mount better using the number plate bolt holes instead of having to drill new ones

I recently got my 02 screw and replaced stereo with double din NAV android unit and reverse camera for $200 US dollar from ebay. It works wonders. I originally thought about the rearview mirror, but screen is too small. As to camera, I went to the bar type to use the license plate mount to avoid drilling. 77 pound is 102 US dollar and it seem wuite expansive for that setup.. my two cents.

The ones in your link tend to be worthless as a mirror in the day time. I used a mount the clamps to the mirror stem till I put the touch screen in.

The modification is simple, doesnt show, and doesnt prevent stock radio from being put back in. All you do, is remove bezel, take a razor knife, cut a line about 1/4"-3/8" above the top of existing frame around radio (remove), then use pliers and snap that plastic off, it will crack on the scored line. Takes 5 min. Easy. Trying to saw or dremel is making it harder than necessary.

Bringing this thread back to life...

The mirror did go down in price at Xmas so I went for it but due to other things in life I'm only now trying to get it wired in

I've been using it as just a mirror for a while now and it's not that bad actually

So.... Question time...

Camera is all fitted & cables run into the cab no problem

Mirror is wired into the black & pink (purple) reverse wire near the parking brake as I've found in a couple of other threads & wiring the ground won't be a problem but is there a convenient ignition switched wire to use in that area to keep everything together?

Thanks

Adrian.

I used add-a-fuse down in the fuse panel to get me ignition plus

Funnily enough, being in the UK, they are not something I had heard of until my dashcam hardwire kit arrived yesterday

They look like they will work perfectly so I ordered a couple of ebay last night

Fingers crossed they will be with me for the weekend and I've now got my multimeter back from being loaned out so I should be sorted at last... lol

Thanks for the suggestion

Adrian.
