In reply to Jbrew. Do me a favor and explain to me what you just said. That makes no sense at all. If you're going to tell me I'm wrong at least try to explain why. If not, don't bother wasting your time replying and attempting to insult me. I said I'm sick of people telling me how to fix my popping noise by telling me how to fix drone. That is by far incorrect. Popping and drone are by far two very different things. You seem to have gotten offended, are you under the impression that popping and drone are the same thing? Because I can take you to school if you'd like.

I can tell you, you wont be taking very many people to school around here. A tuner is not going to fix the popping. The popping is actually caused by the lack of air flow when the throttle blade is closed at a higher RPM but the engine is still pushing similar amounts of fuel through the engine for a split second. Nice try junior. You've got a lot to learn before you school anyone around here. So like Jbrew said you are wrong.

Oh I see, then explain to me what the popping should sound like when that occurs. Junior.

Here's the thing, I would love to learn all I can about this, and how to fix it. But you have got to stop acting like I'm an idiot just because I gave my thoughts on what it could possibly be, then someone else decides to tell me I'm wrong by telling me I'm weak and unwilling to learn?? Not sure how that explains how I'm wrong nor do I know where he got that I was unwilling to learn. So how about you and I start over. How do I and the OP fix this problem, and explain to me why my theory is incorrect. I don't know much about this stuff considering it's not my career, it's just a hobby of mine.

The popping is caused by the lack of airflow thru the engine. With out cats there is nothing to burn the extra fuel. Getting a programmer isnt going to fix the issue. The added airflow requires more fuel. Using a programmer to attempt to defuel the truck to stop the pooping will just make the truck gut less. Coming from someone who does there own tuning, there is no way to fix the popping other than installing high flow cats.

FWIW I never said your were wrong out right. Yes the popping is caused by fuel igniting in the manifolds. What you were wrong about is the was to fix it.

Now having a DI/DO straight thru designed muffler will help reduce the amount of decel popping. But you can never totally get rid of it. Trust me I have tried because it annoys me. I have longtube headers, custom built 3" OR y pip, and full 3" back exhaust. I have reduce the amount of decel pop dramatically with a resonator and a different length muffler. But its still there.

Okay thank you that's all I wanted to know, I had a theory and I was wrong. I'm actully relieved that it's not fixable with a tuner, don't want to spend $400. Now if I add a single high flow cat would that stop the popping? And would it stay just as loud or close?

Tyler, pay no attention to the two hairlips that are trying to belittle you. They've done the same to me, and I really don't care. I have a life, with kids, and this forum is not my life, unlike the two "masters of the late f150 forums". They know it all, and will let you know it. "You won't be taking many people to school around here", because we are edumacated.

Instead of trying to help out a newbie, they like to belittle you with their years of wisdom in the F150 late model forum. The chests bulge as they type every response to new threads, because they know, everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Ideally you would want 1 high flow cat for each bank. 1 single high flow cat would possibly do it but over time it may become clogged having to process the higher than rated amount of fuel. As far as loudness it will mellow it down some and help get rid of some of the exhaust resonance. Whihc may help reduce some of the drone.

Wow. Someone is butthurt. You cam in with a attitude of a know it all and were proven wrong on numerous accounts. I guess it has left a sour taaste in you mouth. Sorry you feel that way. I'm not paid to be here. I have a life and kids also. I just dont like see people waste their time on useless information.

You are absolutely correct. I too have a life, I have never been as disrespected as I have when I started posting and asking questions on this forum. There's a lot of nice people but the few pretentious "masters" are ruining it for me.. I don't have time to make this a career, I got one already, this is supposed to be a fun hobby, people need to stop being *******s.

I posted my mod thread and this same person I am chatting with on here decides to outright call my truck trash and to sell it. So professional. Good thing it's my damn truck .

At least I was able to get an answer on how to fix my popping issue and hopefully the creator of this thread has their answer as well, for that I thank the person for providing that answer.

Yep. It was my opinion. Glad you took it as a joke as it wasnt serious. Just personal feeling towards plastidip. It looks cheap. But not going to derail this thread.

Hahaha again so funny. The lack of knowledge for plastidip here astounds me. Anyway. Thanks for the help on the popping issue, I'll probably get a high flow or two soon. And by the way, I don't want to remove drone.. just the popping. Removing drone was never mentioned by me other than the fact that I'm definitely not referring to drone. I like drone. 'Tis why I removed all my cats and muffler. Recommend any brand of cats? Magna flow or flowmaster?
