I removed the inner fender in the wheel well and inspected the vacuum reservoir which is damaged just as I suspected. So the vacuum is coming from the intake manifold to the reservoir but its not making it out to the beginning of the EGR system because the reservoir is not sealed like it is supposed to be. The pink line on the 4x4 system (which is now fixed) is a different issue that is not effecting the egr system. Will be replacing the vacuum reservoir.

Del1650, I have been reading and want to say way to hang in there...CONGRATS!

Now, I have to ask you a favor....I have the same problem as you but I do not have a 4WD. Mine goes from the solenoid around the back to the passenger side and splices off, one end going to the vacuum tree and the other to some sort of canister. I checked vacuum there at the canister and have vacuum. but not going into the solenoid.
By the way, I got my info from the same site you pasted earlier... well I hope you get this, if not I hope someone else knows what to do...I have changed out many parts with no success.

Thanks

Is the solenoid you're talking about the EVR solenoid? The EVR gets its source of vacuum from the canister that is inside the fender well. There is another canister behind the battery that does not contribute to the EGR system (which had me confused during my diagnoses). There is a line coming off the intake manifold that connects to a tree junction near the battery that in turn supplies vacuum to the canister. Make sure all your vacuum lines around the battery are all in tact and not cracked. If you remove the battery you should be able to see the lines going into the fender well to the canister. Hope this helps!

The link I provided below is a really good explanation of the EGR system and how to test each of the individual components. It helped me a lot. The only thing it doesn't cover is the egr canister.

Hi, thanks for that info, I will take a look. Yes, the black canister type thing that is made of black plastic is what I though was supplying the vacuum. The EVR solenoid is on the drivers side next to two similar looking things called Sol. V AIR B and AIR D under the valve cover right? Now the EVR should have vacuum in the bottom port right? Mine does not. Anyway, I think I should be able to figure it out with your help. I'll let you know.

Thanks again

Also, you talk about a vacuum tree. I thought the vacuum tree was on the head?

Hi again Del1650, well I took out the battery but didn't see any vacuum lines. Anyway, I took some pictures. Is it the white vacuum line that gives vacuum, because it does connect into the vacuum line that feeds the EVR?

I will wait to hear from you, thanks for being patient I'm a tennis coach not a mechanic

Oh wait I didn't realize your truck is pre-1997. Yours is gonna be a bit different than mine. Mine is 1997 with 4.6. The egr setup is gonna be similar but I'm not familiar with the various components or how to troublro. I used to own a 1993 model but never had any issues with egr.
