Default erratic overdrive shifting...HELP!!!!

My overdrive has been going crazy lately. It will shift in and out of OD way too much. It almost acts like my truck is too high geared and bogging down all of the time. I have to get this fixed asap as I have to keep the OD off to keep from tearing something up worse and its killing my gas milage. my check engine light said cylinder misfire 1 and 8 but i cleared them out and they have not came back on in the 250 miles since i cleared them out. need any possible ideas and any help. thanks!!!!!!

so you no longer have a check engine light? did you ever have a vehicle speed sensor code? and what transmission do you have?

Lifted is right on spot, get the codes repaired, not just cleared. Perhaps the engine is at fault not the trans.

only other codes it was throwing is throttle pedal position sensor, throttle position sensor, and o2 sensor. could the throttle pedal position sensor or throttle position sensor be the problem?

The misfire code could be bad COP's. The first time one of my COP's went bad I thought it was the tranny shifting problem and it ended up being the COP. Now that I know what to look for, I have replaced 2 COP's so far. The COP's could be operating erratically, sometimes they work, soemtimes they do not. I know this because I just dealt with this issue last month on mine. They were not bad enough to throw a code so I had to take it to the dealer for more thorough diagnosis. If you know which two COP's are giving you problems, replace them first. I am not a mechanic, just talking from experience on my 01' 5.4l w/ 140,000 miles.
