Default engine mod

hey guys looking for some engine mods to boost power but keep on 87 octane. i have an 03 f150 4.6 4x4. don't need monumental improvements but another 60-70 horse wouldn't hurt. any suggestions. and sub 1500 bucks ideally if possible i know a nice lumpy cam and the explorer intake (gt40) made a huge difference pn my old pushrod 5.0 mustang. is there somthin similar i can do with the modular 4.6. thanks in advance for any tips and tricks.

anything short of slapping on a supercharger won't ganna get you what you want. Especially with 1500 budget, idk if you could get a supercharger for that or not, I'd say just get a tune/exhaust/gear swap and it'll make a world of difference

X2 - For $1500 your options are pretty limited. But a set of long tubes and a tuner is a good start. Pacesetters will run you around $270 - $300, you could probably find a used tuner for $150 - $200. I would highly suggest gears. It wont improve your HP numbers, but it absolutely changes the drive quality.

Maybe 50 to the flywheel. Save money and just tune it up good.

Install a used 5.4 would do the trick if you do the work yourself (with mild upgrades still)...

Are there many write-ups on a 4v conversion? Or a complete mustang motor swap?

Under the engine/drivetrain forum geosase is doing a "98 F150 4.2 to Mark VIII" swap. He may have more info.

Hate to be "that guy", but that's a horrible swap. It's a 4.6 and the DOHC B-series heads are known to have terrible low end. Not what I'd want in a heavy truck.

Your right. I guess you could mod it for more HP, but you loose the low end torque. These engines are rev happy and love the upper RPM spectrum. However they don't do well in a heavy truck. I'd rather have a stock 5.4.

On the lightnings boards it's understood that long tubes don't really add/help with power until your over 500RWHP.

Honestly you won't gain 50, 60, 70 or 80 without slapping in a blower.

EFans don't make power but do help free up power from reducing the amount of rotating mass on the engine.

Tune will help

Intake and Exhaust is minimal also.

You MIGHT gain 20RWHP with all four mods to be completely honest.

That's just my 2 pennys.

Wayne
