At 200k I know my time is running out so I figured I would start taking a serious look at a badass boosted build.
I fixed it for ya buddy lol

id love to have a badass NA build. boosted would be awesome too but if I built a motor for my truck I would go NA. at least the first go around.

I'm still stuck on stupid for the 5.4 4v. Todd Warren and his little group are really making some impressive NA numbers with fat Tq curves.

I feel like I'd be wasting money going with a Blower again because I would never go up in Boost. 380hp is more than achievable with the right 4v combination and Navi intake.

That is the other variant I was looking at but myfx4 didnt sound incredibly impessed with his flat top piston build.

what would need to change electronics wise to make a 4v play nice being set up in a 97? would you be able to keep the factory 97 gauges and still have everything working as it should, or would you need to swap out harnesses?

I can't wait till I graduate so I can start building my engine lol I really just need an internship and I can probably start. I'm a mechanical engineering major with a minor in motorsports, so starting my junior year I should be doing this stuff in school lol

I think it's important to get it dyno'd before and after to remember where you started. I think his expectations might have been a bit high for his setup which would explain anyone's disappointment after spending that much money.

It would be safer to go with a blower just because if the results aren't what you want you can nearly always add boost. With NA you're pretty much stuck and if you add bigger cams for more power, you lose low end and driveability. It's a gamble till you know the best combination and that doesn't happen till you have more guinea pigs.

Who wants to gamble with $10k first? I'm waiting till the last possible moment to start my engine. I hope to get electric lockers and my interior done before I go any further with mine.

I think dyno before and after would definitely be a good idea. That 10k price point is why I want to take a 98 long block with some mild cams, to start building torque before the 1000 rpm mark, in pi heads just to see if its even remotely close to what I want. If it is then I can spend the money to actually build the engine from new.

I really want a rear e-locker but I would do gears at that point too. Nothing about truck building is cheap. Lol
