I've heard old school builders talk about riding a new engine hard to "set the rings." Not sure if there is any truth to that with these mod motors. What is there really to "break" in on a new engine by going easy on it?

The biggest part about break in, Is actually the cam(s) breaking in. I don't start any engine until its in, filled with water,fans.. And ready to run for 25mins at 1200rpm.

After that its, A few heat up and fully cool down cycles. ... Light driving.... Oil change And then shes ready.

Their are tons of different theories out there.

To be honest with you Jferg, I drove mine normally for break in. Used some cheap autozone 5w30 for the first 500 miles and synthetic from there on. As long as assembly lube is used on the bearings & cams and the oil pump is primed before the initial run there shouldn't be any concern for premature wear. The cylinders are honed using a cross hatching pattern at a specific angle to allow the rings to seat properly and lubrication to take place in the cylinder. I was told the initial start up was the crucial element for break in. To run it at 2k rpm for 20 minutes allows it to get hot enough for the rings to seat.

One theory I've heard was break it in how you plan to drive it. Meaning if you ride the engine hard a lot break it in that way because if you are easy on it for the break in period and then rail on it, that's a time when it can give you issues.

jferg92 found a accufab SB TB that needs the cable bracket on the FB F150 Lightning Harley Buy/Sell Parts page. Wants $100 + the ride for it. Housing looks good. Maybe you could use parts from your damaged one. Or fix & sell for a profit.....
