HELP!!!!! I have a 1998 F150 v8 4.6l. We have changed the EGR valve, Purge valve solenoid, and the Valve Pressure Sensor. Still throwing the EGR code. What else can possibly need to be replaced? We bought a new fuel hose and new elbows to replace since the truck sat for 2 years in an Oklahoma field. Anyone have ANY ideas??

Did u replace the DPFE sensor, if not then that's prob it that's real common on these trucks, if I have replaced its possible ur EGR passages are plugged solid not letting enough glow

i second that, if you have high mileage, almost guaranteed there is a plugged port. one of mine was and would have never known had i not taken the throttle body apart. although it was not throwing a code it was running a little odd, so i started investigating.

We have replaced the DPFE sensor. Truck is running great but keeps throwing the P0401. Running out of EGR parts to replace.

That's why you always check the free stuff first. You have to remove the Throttle body elbow and clean out the EGR port. The 4sixs will plug up solid. The 5fours won't because of the much larger port.

Dunno if it works the same way with the Ford trucks, but I had a 96 T-bird and got a check engine light. Brought it to a mechanic and he put a code reader on it and said it was an EGR problem. After seeing what they wanted for a new EGR for that beast and really not all that sure if that was the issue as the valve seemed to be working just fine I started poking around in the book. Seems the T-Bird has a differential pressure sensor in the fuel tank that compares the barometric pressure to the pressure inside the fuel tank and if a negative tank pressure doesn't occur, it throws a code. Well, I got to thinking and determined that the only thing I did was put an aftermarket (Stant) locking fuel cap on. Checked out the cap and found the vent was stuck open, not allowing the tank to draw a suction and throwing the code. Changed out the cap (put the OEM back on), reset the codes and never had another issue. Everyone was telling me that the issue was with my EGR. Sometimes leaving the fuel cap off or loose will throw the same code and check engine light.
