Default Door Ajar/Dome light/Chime issues

1997 supercab f150 here....

Dome light has not worked since I bought the truck, and I tested the bulb in another truck and the bulb is fine. The Map light on either side of the dome light DO work though. The chime noise(like if your lights were left on and you open the door) is always on when you have the door open, even when the lights are off. Also, just the other day, my Door ajar light came on after getting in the truck and will not go off now. This causes my interior door lights to stay on, even when I shut the doors.

So do you know how to solve these problems individually, or are they all related? Where is the button or switch on the doors that causes the door ajar light to come on?

The problem may lie withing the door itself. I believe there is a switch that tells the computer that the door is open that is activated when the door is opened. it may be hanging up and not sending the correct signale to the computer.

also check to see if you have water leaking in the GEM module from the bottom corner of the windshield, this has been known to cause allsort of gremlins to take up residence in an F-150.

Well I just sprayed some WD-40 in the door latches and that seems to have taken care of my door ajar and door light issue. But the dome light and chime noise issue still remains.
Could this be caused from water leaking in? Or could it be a relay issue or something? The chime noise is just so annoying, but some times I swear it goes away if I shake the steering wheel or shift lever, but that is pretty rare.

sounds like a wiring issue to me. if it goes away on its own then i would say a possible short or bad ground.

have either of the doors been replaced at one point? perhaps a stereo installed before you had bought the vehicle? or anything else to indicate that someone has messed with the wiring under the dash?

Obviously you found the switches located in the latch mechanism with the WD-40 trick. Don't forget the dome lite switch in the instrument cluster intensity rheostat. Make sure it isn't in the locked full on position. The entry about the GEM module has merrit also. Its located behind headlight switch area up near the top of dash.

I have the same year truck.. Cant remember if they have a "key in ignition" chime or not.. That could be your issue. There is that the little switch inside of your ignition and it may think it still has the key in it like some debris or dirt got in there..

As far as the dome light, could be a wire that came un-connected..

The dash is really loose and floppy in my truck, and even the whole light switch assembly just about pops out if i pull the fog light switch, so maybe they have messed with stuff in the dash before. No signs of new doors or new radios or other accessories though. I really can't figure it out. I wouldn't think the dome light would have a wiring issue??

I never considered the key in the ignition chime being the problem. You think blowing some high pressure air in the key hole might help, or bad idea?

i did some wiring work on my 97 scab a few months ago and noticed the door chime whenever i took loose a ground wire near the brake release handle, it stopped whenever i hooked it back up. pull off the drive kick panel and there should be a ground wire around that location that bolts to the body. maybe that's it?

I have noticed a similar problem with my 2003 supercab. It is intermittent and VERY hard to troubleshoot. Upon getting in and starting my truck, the dome light and cargo lights are on, as well as the "door ajar" light on on the dash. Sometimes it all clears after getting a ding (like when opening the door with the engine running.) I have replaced the Interior Lamp Relay which appears to be the common junction for all of the conditions but I still get the symptoms. I'm about to loose my mind trying to find the door switch and wiring.

I'm having issues with the pass side door on my super crew. All of the doors will turn on the dome light when opened except the front pass side.
I've pulled the door panel off and for the life of me can't find any switch that would turn on the dome light.
From what I understand the switch is located in the latch itself, but there are no wires going to the latch, so I don't know how that can be.
