disconnecting negative on battery

Why is it that when you do the gotts mod it says to disconnect the negative? i have an edge programmer so will this reset my programmer?

its to reset all your sensors to allow optimum performance out of it/ gain and yes wouldnt be bad idea to reset the edge takes 2 mins

i did it annd the only thing i noticed really was on the highway my truck climbs hills easier.. around town im on the gas anyways sooo i never notice lol
