Cracked Headgasket repair Vs. Reman or crate
So recently found out i have a cracked head gasket on my 2003 f150 5.4 screw, currently has 169k miles on it, so obviously not worth the repair when something could go wrong down the road, say my left gasket goes add another 3500 repair. I was looking at some remans ranging from 1500-2500, then you got your crate which jumps to 3100 and higher. Im looking for opinions on what to get. Please dont say just get rid of the truck to much into it and to much love for it. Im trying to keep it around until i total it...i may even rebuild it if i do .

Id spend the extra 1300 for a full reman.
Although it depends, have you had your truck since day 1 and know all of the history? If not go reman.
If you know thr history of it and how its been kept then id say thats the deciding factor.
I replaced head gaskets at 128k when I blew one and I havent had any problems since then (150k now). And im just a diy mechanic. In the end its all up to you but Id like to think on the safe side.
Say you spend the money for just the head gasket and it fails in 20k.. will the shop cover it? Remans will have longer warranty I can almost guarantee it. And a new engine will last as long as you want it to with proper maintenance.

I also dont know the extent of the damage the cracked head gasket has caused it could be worse when i get in there, im also going to need to new exhaust manifold because as of right now i can poke a pencil through it almost. And i do not know the full history of the vehicle the issue was not my fault as someone before me ran the vehicle hot. Ive only bough it a few months ago and have always maintained proper maintanance.
