Question Couple questions regarding replacing Intake Manifold Gasket.

I'm about to order an intake manifold gasket set for my 5.4L.
  • Is there a recommended brand of gaskets?
  • I'm going to replace the thermostat and spark plugs during the process, is there anything else I should replace?
Thanks!

FelPro is generally a good brand. Search the threads for intake manifold, leaking intake manifold, etc. There are several good posts regarding details of the process of what you'll be getting into.

Here's just one.

So was your manifold cracked or was it just the gasket? Mine is leaking in the same place.

It was cracked. Considering the age of the intake and how many heat cycles it had been through, it would have made sense to me to replace it even if it hadn't been cracked. Removing and re-installing a brittle plastic intake could have been a little risky, but others have been successful. I'm usually not so lucky.
Rock Auto had a complete replacement at a very reasonable price.

I used felpro and it has done well for me, check all vacuum lines while the intake is out, also I would personally replace the heater hose under the manifold since you already have it out and wont want to do that again. I did my vacuum hoses, coolant hoses, pump, thermostat, and would have done my plugs and coils had they not been done already. Oh great time to clean the throttle body too!

I also replaced my knock sensor, temp sensor and coolant by pass tube (all Ford) while I was in there

If you buy it, watch the video in one of the above links, read the included instructions, and remember to tighten the bolts down in two stages.
There will never be an easier time to replace the spark plugs, once the manifold is out. Consider replacing them at the same time if yours have some age/mileage on them.

Alright! I'm gonna go ahead and order and replace the whole thing then, no point in removing the intake and then finding out that it needs to be replaced especially since I need the vehicle. I'll post how it went when I'm finished. Thanks for the help!
