Default oil pressure problems with my '97

Hey guys. I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I've got a '97 F150 Lariat that's got about 180k miles on it. For the most part it runs pretty well, but it's starting to get those little things here and there that need fixing or replacing. The most recent happened a couple days ago. I noticed the oil pressure gauge going up and down intermittently... as well as it's red light. I didn't notice any change in performance however. I was told that this could be the result of either the oil pump or sending unit having problems. So I took my truck to a guy here in Dallas and am waiting to hear what he says. Can you guys give me any insight as to what to expect? Does any of this sound familiar?

Thanks.
