Hello, I am 15 years old and am looking for my first truck. I want a 1997-2002 Ford f-150. It has to have these features: 4x4 (I live in Iowa), 4.2 v6 motor, a manual transmission if possible (I do know how to drive a manual), regular cab is preferred but will settle for extended, around100,000 well maintained miles, short-box would be nice, as little rust as possible. Is this possible with $6,500?

I got my 99 F150 XLT 4x4 offroad with the 5.4 and oversized tires for $5000. It had 112,000 miles on it. Had to replace a ball joint shortly after buying it but cant beat the price.

The only reason I want 4.2 is because of fuel economy

There isn't much of a difference. Most of the 4.6's get about the same fuel econ as a 4.2. Take it from some one who has dropped $4000 into a 02 4.2 that he got for $5000 with 67K miles, get the 4.6. 30 more hp but well worth it when it comes to reliability. Oh yea, OE Ford clutches suck. I've got 30K miles on my 2nd clutch (replaced the original due to a bad throwout bearing at 95K miles) and this one is warped to hell. Haven't even pulled anything close to the 3500 lb limit of the clutch, just not worth it if I have to drop the transmission every 30K miles to either sort something out with the clutch or slave cylinder.

That's an extended cab. Like I said, I got my reg cab short bed with 67K miles for $5000.
