I have a 2000 f150 XLT 5.4L V8 and i had magnaflow exhaust on it but wanted a more deeper and aggresive sounding muffler so put a flowmaster 44 single in/out muffler on it. It sounds great until i put the tailpiping on. Then its quieter than the magnaflow muffler was which sounded like stock. Why does the tailping make it that much more quieter. Is it from having the 4 cats. I want duals on it but cant afford it so im leaving it with the stock single in single out. How can i make my new exhaust louder? A buddy of mine said if i get flowmasters super 10 muffler it would make it louder or buy a glasspack.

I removed all four cats on my 97 4x4. Love it, no codes, and sounds great.

I wouldn't remove the cats cause I know at least were I live it's illegal. And you won't pass emissions with them off. And your truck will run like Crap with out them and you well lose power. Mess with headers and everything pass the cats but not the cats.

Your truck won't run like crap and it won't lose power you lose the low end and gain in the top end. But I promise it absolutely will not run like crap. If anything it will run better. If your gonna spend money on headers it's a waste to put cats back in IMO.

Im guessing my truck will throw a code if I remove the rear 2 cats? If so is there any way to turn the code off and bypass it so it will stay off? And what will it effect when the code does come up?
Thanks for any help!
You can take the cats out, and if your worried about throwing a code just do the gotts o2 mod. Google it and it will be right there with installation how to and everything you need. IT'S CHEEP TO!!

Well If it does not then I'd say go for it but from my understanding your engine was designed to run with the cats on so taking them off I would think would mess up gas mileage and power etc. But iv never taken them off so I don't know.

If you take them off you will lose a little low end and gain a little top end. And mileage might go up depending on how you drive. But your truck will run/sound better. Then you do lt's with a custom tune and it will be a great improvment.

Once I adjusted to the small loss in low end torque my mileage went up.
