Default A/C issue

01 5.4

Air conditioning is running cool, not cold. Temp control seems to be working so I would think that would rule out the blend door. (Unless it's possible for the blend door to not turn all the way to cold) According to a gauge that comes with the R134A the system is full.

Few years ago I did have to replace the bearing to the ac pulley. Everything seems to be working fine. Any idea what I can look for or check?

stick a thermometer in the vent and crank it up and see what it reads after a long drive. Maybe take the grille and grille surround off and clean the condenser probably full of crap.

that what? The condenser? It's in front of the radiator. Just take a garden hose and spray it out well you'll see dirt come out. It'll help make it more efficient. You can get a thermometer at advance auto. Just stick it in the vent with all the vents open on max A/C with it all the way on cold and the fan turned up. Try driving at first with the windows down a tad for 5 minutes to get heat out. Then roll them up and then it'll go down more. It should be close to 40 degrees.

mine is a 03 but I think my evaporator is full of gravel dust and pebbles because I keep getting gravel and dirty water in the floor and I have weathertechs so dirt wouldn't be getting under there.. Anyway mine goes down to 42-40 so 42-38 or so. I think one guy said his gets down to like 36 haha

You need to add refrigerant oil (PAG 46), replace the Accumulator/Drier & Orifice tube every time the system is opened. PAG Oil absorb moisture faster than Brake Fluid. Vacuum can no longer remove all trap mositure in oil.

Without Refrigerant oil the compressor will overheat. It will also not blow cold air when there is too much oil.

The small line coming from the condenser should be very hot before the orifice tube. The small line should be very cold after the orifice tube before the firewall. One of the pipe going to the compressor should be very hot & the other one should be very cold.

Thanks for the info all. I cleaned off the condenser and then I got a different gauge. That gauge was showing low on refrigerant. I added some and it's blowing nice and cold now.
