Default C.B Antenna

I'm wanting to locate my C.B antenna on the roof of my truck, just have not gotten the cuorage to pop a 1/2" hole in my roof. You guys with C.B's, where do you have them mounted. Any on the roof. Whats a GOOD roof mount antenna brand?

Thanks for any help,

Why don't you look into a magnetic roof mount. They stay put and you don't have to drill. I have mine mounted to my toolbox. Will post pics when I get back to my house tonight.

I'm running a K40 magnetic mount on my roof. Works great. I don't leave it up there all the time, i routed the coax behind the rear seat (supercab) but left enough slack so that i can leave it hooked up, but lay it down inside the truck on the rear floor when just driving around town. My truck is lifted, so the antenna hits every low hanging branch, so i only use it on the highway. I also ran a wilson 1000 for a while, but it was about 6 - 8 inches taller than the K40 and it hit EVERYTHING so i opted for a little shorter antenna. The magnet mount antennas will scratch your roof overtime though, leaving a perfect circle right where it's been. I just don't worry about it because you have to be on a ladder to see my roof!!

Firts what kind of antenna do you want, do you want a steel whip or just enough to make it work. I made a custom bracket to mount inside the bed near the top. that sticks out enough to put the spring on.

I want a steel whip for sure. The other problem with the magnet mount is hiding the coax cable. I already can't go into parking garages cause my truck is lifted and the antenna hits and it is only mounted on the toolbox in the bed. HAHA but i don't mind about that. I have heard good things about the k40 though.

Thanks guys,

Yeah usually when i go into parking garages im scared im gonna hit my truck on the roof but when I can fit I pull the antenna down in the bed so it doesn't hit. I definitely wouldn't bolt it to the roof cause it'll get ripped right off.

Ya, but where I live there is only 1 parking garage in town, and I think I have been in it ounce. HAHA. So im not to worried about that. Right now it just gets in the way of tieing loads down in my bed and stuff.

well I've only been in two i think and thy are like thirty minutes away. I just think being mounted on the back of the tool box is the best looking place to mount one. How does yours affect tying stuff in. The only thing mine gets in the way of is when i want to put my four wheeler in the bed i cant pull it up to the tool box or it pushes against the antenna

Well I have a toolbox and it is mounted on the back of the box, so closer to the back of the bed than the front. It doesn't affect the load, just me when i'm tring to tie it in, constantly poking me and stuff. HAHA And im looking for a camper shell right now for the winter months to camp in and stuff, so i would have to keep moving it around. If it is on the roof, it is out of the way of everything. My dad has it mounted on the roof of his f-250 and for some reason I just really like that look on trucks. But I know what your sayin, everything makes sence. I just have to decide which route to go. So many desicions.
