Bolt-on Horsepower
I have a completely stock 2002 reg. cab 4X4 with a 4.6. I'm not going for a hotrod, but I feel the 4.6 is lacking in response and acceleration. I am considering a cat-back exhaust and a cold air intake. I may have it reprogrammed too. Are shorty headers worth the trouble? What else is out there that can wake up a 4.6 without a teardown?

I have a 4.6 with cold air intake and custom exhaust. What a difference it has made on my truck. I did the cai first and then the exhaust later and with both this thing rocks now. Lots of power at the pedal and makes it perform top notch. I think you will be happy with the mods.

ya the 4.6 is starved for air, that is why a good number of cold air intakes will give you better power, but sip a bit more gas. Doing the exhaust and the cai would help you out. Just remember tho... 4.6 dont = 5.4. Ford makes the 4.6 come out of the factory with about the best mpg you will get out of it. You might be able to gain 2mpg hwy with the right combo between the two. I have installed 3 diff cai just to rip them back off b/c i lost on avg 1.5 mpg hwy with them. had a cat back from dyna... it was ****. Goin with straight duals now..no mufflers just the cats... about the best imrovement ive made and it didnt cost that much.
