There is a step by step how to on another forum (I'm feeling a little lazy right now or I would supply the link, try Google), but the basic thing is to use the right cleaner and DON'T touch the wires with anything. Not even a Q-Tip. I pulled mine completely out of the intake, but some guys just spray the living crap out of the sensor while it is still in the intake. The cleaner is quick drying so it will evaporate. If you do decide to remove it from the intake to clean it, you will need a tamper proof torx bit (the ones with the hole in he middle) size T-20.

Be uber careful when dealing with the MAF sensor. That thing has a wire in it that's as thick as a piece of hair. It doesn't take much to screw it up.
The MAF sensor cleaning works! It's worth the short time it takes to do it and the price of the cleaner. You'll be surprised with the results.
