Belt tensioner removal????????
hello..... i am asking this question for my uncle. he has a 2003 f150 4x4 4.6L engine and when u start the truck it has a really loud whine under the hood. i used a broom handle to listen to the pulleys and found that the belt tensioner was the culpret. how do i remove the tensioner?i know to take the tension off the drive belt and remove the 3 small bolts but does the tensioner just pull right off or do i need a puller??

To Pull or Not to Pull:
Using a 1/2" x 18" breaker bar rotate the tensioner to relieve tension on the belt, then remove the belt. The tensioner assembly comes off when the three mounting bolts are removed.
I new pulley and bearing can be bought for about $25; if you want to save a dollar or two, press the ball bearing out of the pulley and press a new bearing back into place. The bearing is NTN 6203LH or equivalent and cost about ten bucks.

My son did mine for me, there are two pulleys on my 97 4.6L that run the belt.
If you have two, replace them both so you won't have to do them again. The new ones also had a slight wine but cleared up in about a week. There are just bolts that that hold them there.
