Check for battery voltage at the large terminal of the alternator. Believe its a black/orange wire. Also need 12 volts at orange/lt blue wire. gets its power from fuse 11 on my 02. And last if alternator does in fact charge the wht/blk wire becomes powered up and thus 12 volts is put to both sides of the idiot lite and it goes out. Don't let the last sentence scare you off, its just circuitry stuff controlling the lite in the dash.
