good to know everyone... with everything said and done, i charged the battery then went back to diag... and i saw for myself that the theft light was not flashing. silly rookie tire guys....

anywho... i replaced the fuel pump, along with a new sock and fuel filter, and its running beautifully. its not knocking or pinging anymore, which i know now was a result of poor fuel pressure. it idles perfectly, and actually feels like a truck.

all fixed for 108 bucks. god, sometimes i love working at a shop where I have access to lifts and air tools... that job would have SUCKED on my back!!

thanks again guys.. good to know about the inertia switch... didnt know this year had one.

Default Fuel pump problem??

RUITERMAN - Did your truck run fine when it did start? I am experiencing a similar problem with my 2001 F150 SC. It runs fine when it starts, but sometimes just wont start. Is this a symptom of a failing fuel pump? I have already replaced the Fuel Pump Relay and the Fuel Filter, but wanted to be more certain of the problem before I go through the trouble of dropping the tank. I have not checked the pressure, don't have the gage.

Replaced the pump and it's running great for over a year.

That is what mine does. It runs fine when it starts but does not always start. Also I took a windex bottle and put gas in it. When sprayed in the intake it will start and run but when I quit spraying it, it did not die out, It kept running. I drove it for about 6 miles came home and turned it off and went to restart and it would not start again. The next day It started on its own. I cahnged the fuel filter also but so far it starts every time for the last 3 days. I am scared to drive it somewhere and turn it off for fear of it not starting again.

Sounds like this is happening a lot. My 2001 S-Crew is doing the samething. When it does start it runs fine but it might take a few tries to get it started. It was sitting there for 2 days and I couldn't get it to start and then I replaced the relay and it started right up and then the next day it was going back to starting up the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th try. I am going to check the pressure tomorrow but I am pretty sure the pump is on its way out.

I have a 92 with dual tanks when I use the front you smell gas an the truck act like it's running out of gas, an has no power. Then the rear tank the truck runs good an has power. I thought it was in need of a tune up but that didn't help. What should I do

Post in the 87-96 section and don't bring up threads this old. You'll get more help in the right section in a new thread.
