Hey guys. My front caliper is sticking and in need of replacement. I found rebuilt Fords from Duralast at Autozone for about $50. There was only one review which said they work good but rusted. I guess the paint is stripped and not repainted after the rebuild.


So I was wondering who upgraded their calipers, what you got, where you found them, about how much, and if it was worth it.


I may just get the Duralasts and paint them.

The only upgrade that would be worth it for a truck is the Expedition upgrade. Just get an OEM replacement caliper for them (along with the bracket). Pain the caliper before you install.

After looking at Brembo and stuff, I think that's the only route I can afford. LOL

Advance Auto has Ford remanufactured with rust inhibitor and mounting bracket (neither come with the Autozone calipers) for $56.99 each. That's what I'm going with. They are only $7 more than the Autozone ones.

Are you sure it's the caliper sticking and not the hose gone bad? The hoses go bad (separate inside) and they will create a vacuum and make the caliper stick. You might think about replacing the hoses at the same time as the caliper for preventive maintenance.

If your truck is a 03 you dont need to worry about using Expedition calipers because you already have them being it is a Screw. The real only upgrade would be to the 7700 series calipers. They have 3mm larger piston than the expedition/f150. They also come with steel pistons versus the phenolic pistons for loves to use in everything light duty.

Since they are brand new, I will also hit them with some Duplicolor caliper paint to make them pop.

The ones at Advance are the 7700 steel.

No I am not sure, but I'm not doing the job, either. If my mechanic thinks the hoses need replacing, he will do it.


I figure for $114 in parts, I'm just going to do the calipers, too. Only the bottom piston stuck because the inside pad is now shaped like a wedge. Scrapped a good pair or $100 EBC Green Supreme pads, which I'm not happy about.

Good. Yeah wast happy when I had a caliper stick full force and scrapped a EBC rotor and set of the the green stuff pads.. I'm running the 7700 calipers and Rotors from a 03 Expo from EBC on my 97. Just need to get around to upgrading the damn drums.
