anti theft/key question/
I have a 1997 f150 5.4l. I'm putting in a remote start on it. It has anti theft on it ( and it does work like it supposed to )but it does'nt have a key with the chip in it. The key is a plain metal key, no plastic. The pats module says you need to place a spare key in the box and wrap wire anround the ignition switch. problem is the key. It's just a plain key. Is there a way to override the anti theft. In jeeps you simply ground one of the wires going to the drivers side door lock. If I'm right the anti theft thinks the doors are unlocked at all times. I don't live in a place where I worry about my truck getting stolen, so I can live without the anti theft. I WANT REMOTE START!!!

FLARESIDE MAN !!!
if your key does not have a chip it then there has to be a chip or key close to the transceiver that is the black ring around the key cylinder under the column cover... did the truck have a remote start or alarm ???? you may need to make a second key and have it programmed the remote start kit will have a optional pats bypass that you must use for a remote start to work

dark green/purple wire. drivers side upper left firewall. Is the alarm disable. i just found it online.you have to test it to see if it's hot while armed or hot while disarmed, and wire it like so.
Me and my brother are gonna work on this maybe monday. i'll let you know how it goes, and I'm gonna keep looking back here for any more advice.

I don't know what to say. We looked around the steering colum, no spare key. Just the anti theft module that the ignition wires hook into. we put the remote start in and every thing works. so I don't know. All that matters is everthing works.
