There should be a valve in the radiator to release the air in the system. I am having the same problem. I will have him also change out the engine coolant sensor. I beleive is what is causing my overheating problem. Just a thought......

I had my cooling system flushed out with one of those machines at one of the oil changing places, and that got all of the air out of my system. Even after driving for an hour or so, I could pop my hood and still be able to squeeze the radiator hose like if it were cold. No air, no steam = no pressure on the hoses.

I think i have the same thing going on with my 03. I'm loosing heat from the vents, and then shortly thereafter overheating. I'm starting to think i have a head gasket going. Gonna get a test kit tommorow, maybe you should do the same.

The cross flow radiators with their small passages are a pain in the butt, and then to have the radiator cap relocated to the reservois is another nightmare the mechanics have to deal with.

Ford t-stats have a bleed hole located in its base, this has to be mounted so the bleed hole is up. This helps but is by no means the cure, water is expelled from the engine at a faster rate than can flow across the radiator to the side which feeds the pump.

I'm not offering advice but asking for help also. There are no bleed valves to expell the air while still allowing a constant coolant supply to the intake of the pump.

I welcome any suggestions, cures or procedures to burp these systems.

You have the same thing as I. I have 2003 f150 4.6. It a blown head gasket. I have look at buying an new engine. COst for new would be better fixing what I have due to I have 146,000 miles. New engine is 2,500 and to fix head gasket is the same 2,000-2,500. Now to figure out how to come up with 2,500.

Question sensor #2

I have an overheating engine but not coolant. Radiator cold with coolant and thermostat was replaced after being checked. The fan turns free when the engine is turned off. I had a test ran that showed #2 sensor was out that keeps my engine light on. My heater stops working and then zip the heat guage goes up to max. The engine does get hot, the fan is turning and will also change speeds when necessary. I think it is the sensor. What do you all think?

When I squeeze the upper radiator hose there are bubbles in the overflow tank. I thought it was a vapor lock. Now it could be that #2 sensor or it may be some sedement stopping the coolant from getting to the engine. Anyone like to give me some input?
