Default ABS light and pedal to the floor.

I've got a 2002 F150 with 226000 miles. It's weell maintained by a buddy at a dealership. Truck is in excellent condition. This morning, while stopped, I was putting pressure on the brake pedal while trying to get change out of my pants pocket. The next thing I know, the brake pedal is going to the floor and the BRAKE light comes on and stays on. Still have some brakes, but the pedal goes almost all the way to the floor. From what I read, it is an ABS problem. Anything I should check before taking it in? The brakes are in good shape and have worked flawlessly up to this point.

did you check your fluid level? there may have been a rusty spot in the line and your extra pressure may have blown it out

Thanks for the response! I checked the module fuses and they seem to be ok, so maybe that's it. As soon as the pouring rain stops here, that it'll be the first place I look. I'll let you know either way. Thanks!

Could be the master cylinder as I have had the same thing happen on an older ford.

or the power break booster - but check your brake fluid before doing anything else - if it's low you may have a leak somewhere

Brake line busted, or the rubber flex line for the front discs. Dont know about the ABS light, would low fluid in the resevoir set the ABS light? Power brake booster failure would cause a stiff pedal I always thought.

After the rain stops, look at the insides of your tires and lines for brake fluid.

Hey guys, thanks for all of your help. I did give you some bad info about the problem - it wasn't the ABS light that was on, it was the brake light. When it stopped raining it's ***** off, I checked the brake fluid and it was dry. I filled it up and looked for a leak. I found the leak and am getting it fixed today. Thanks again for the responses!
