Helping a friend get a basic topper for his truck....will a 95-96 topper on the same type of truck fit?

Take measurements. As long as the measurements are correct it will work, just may not look the best. I had a canopy to a Chevy on my truck lol.

Yea that is a different generation. where the rear break light is on these trucks has a huge curve which makes toppers for other trucks difficult to fit. I found a cheap one and cut out a section at the top and re-fiberglassed it to make it work.

Different body configurations, so no that won't work on our Gen 10's. Note that my avitar shows a shell on a Gen 10 truck. See how the cab vs shells fits? The Gen 9 shell is different right at the cab/bed line and a bit wider. Gen 10's are narrower at the top than the prior years. 99=up Super Duties (note: shell may be taller with the SD shell vs F150) have the same box configuration, so the shell should fit from those model F250/350's to the F150 Gen 10. The tail gates and lights are interchangealbe

Or just move it back a couple inches. I had to do that when I had the Chevy canopy on my truck, not issues and never leaked.

The whole cab is curved on the back, it's not just the brake light that's in the way.
