Default 99 F150 4.2 V6 poor gas mileage

Hi there, my truck gets poor gas mileage it is about 13mpg. I was thinking a V6 should get at least 17mpg. It has new plugs, wires, air filter, new gas filter, standard tires runs well & no codes. It is a F150 Reg. Cab, long bed, V6 4.2L, Auto.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you, Mike

or upgrade to the 4.6 ive been told by several people that the best motor mpg wise in a truck is the smaller v8

I'm in the same boat as you, but mines a supercab. Takes alot of oommpph to move a full size truck. Quit checking your mileage, you'll only be disappointed.

Mike, that does sound a bit low. I get 12-17mpg outta my 2002 5.4l with 147k miles on it. Have you checked the air filter and/or fuel filter?

Also, how do you drive? Heavy on the pedal?

Dont recommend "upgrading" if you havent performed an engine swap.

I have a 2003 F150 supercrew with the 4.6 and generally get 16.5 to 17 mpg, but since the cold has hit it appears to have dropped to around 13.5, I wouldn't think
it would drop that much even with running a bit richer during the extended warmup.
Thinking of going with a K&N air filter.

I have a 2003 supercrew (4.6 2wd)that generally gets 17 but with the cold weather it has dropped to around 13.5.
I'm looking at a K&N air filter for everyday driving.
Anyone else having poor cold weather mileage?
