Default 99 f-150 burning oil, but no smoke!

I have 1999 Ford F-150 xl. 4.2 5 speed manual transmission. I noticed that it burns a ridiculous amount of oil. But it shows no signs of leaking, and it definitely doesn't blow out any blue smoke. It does however give me a oil burning smell. It runs and drives great! It only has 153,000 miles. Could it be a bad pcv valve? Or do you think it's time to do a v8 swap in the thing and call it a day? I need help. I will do a compression test later on this week. But for now I've been adding oil and topping it off. Any ideas of what it could be?

Can't swap a V8 for the Four2, unless you want to foolishly waste money lol.

Yes, go thru the PCV system and make absolutely sure you have a "Motorcraft" PCV valve in there.

I know the oem one is only about 3 bucks at autozone but people keep telling me that it's something more serious then a simple pcv valve.

It could be..or not. A plug PCV valve will chug oil, lots of it. It won't exactly burn it like you may be thinking,- it will use it.

yea because it doesn't click telling me it needs oil nor does my low oil level doesn't show on my dash. It runs great and doesn't blow smoke at all. I'll definitely switch the pcv valve today. Do you recommend getting the oem motor craft one? Or would a aftermarket one from autozone?

I have a 03 f150 with the 4.2. It has very low miles, 75,000 original. It runs good, I bought it with a bad pcm. I replaced that but it uses a crazy amount of oil. It doesn't smoke at idle, but when you rev it up it smokes a lot. And driving down the road it smokes if you demand power. Wondering if the pcv valve could be the issue here? It is located in the intake, behind the TPS. Not in the valve cover like other engines. Wondering if it is sucking up oil when throttle is open more than at idle? Otherwise it runs great, but I will need to own exxon mobil to support its oil addiction.lol

I will get a new one in there and see how that works. Its a cheap enough part to replace. And its better to try than tearing into the engine searching for something.
I will give it a shot. Thanks.
I will report my findings after.

Only a Motorcraft part, when it comes to PCV valves anyway.
