Default 99-03 LED fog light install

Since I'm running HID retrofits on my truck, I decided I wanted to upgrade my fog lights. I could have just got some Depot fogs and threw in some HID bulbs, but since my headlights are custom that wouldn't do. So, I made some measurements and ordered these 6" LED light bars off of eBay for $75 apiece http://www.ebay.com/itm/251230249952

For my install I used

  • the 2 bars of course
  • supplied hardware with the lights
  • 4 large washers
  • ratchet with an 8mm socket and a 10mm deep well socket
  • supplied Allen wrenches with the LED bars
  • soldering iron and quality soldering wire
  • electrical tape
  • heat shrink tubing and a lighter
  • wire strippers and my pocket knife
  • 2 black zip-ties
To begin remove your factory fog lights, simply unplug them and remove the 3 8mm bolts across the top as well as the bolt keepers, you do not need to drill any holes, simply use the larger round hole and the 3rd square hole from the frame rail(indicated by the red arrows)

Next attach the brackets to the lights, the side closest to the frame rail needs to overhang the light(the bolt needs to be pre installed) and the outside one should be pointed the same way, this is the only way they will fit the holes

Now install the light, put on the large washer you provide, then put on the small flat washer and the lock washer, then the nut. And theres a rubber pad that keeps them from vibrating that goes between the bumper and brackets. I found that its easier to catch the inside bracket first then the outside repeating the same procedure on the hardware

now you need to cut the factory plug off of your fog light harness, cut off the tape to expose some more wire, solder and heat shrink the tan wire from the light to the red wire from the harness. Then do the blue wire from the light to the black wire, heat shrinking it as well to ensure a water resistant connection. I just tucked the wires back into the factor wire sheath, taped it up and zip tied it up to the frame to keep it from getting yanked out

and here's the finished product...

Cut off the plug and soldered them together. Red to tan. Blue to black

Default Night shots!!!

Here's a few night shots. they filled in the empty space the projectors don't really cover lower to the truck(the only beef I had with them, now solved)

5000K HID's on low(brighter than factory halogens)

with the fogs on

It's so bright the camera would barely focus

you could probably aim them up more if you wanted, but since they're so bright if you go too high you risk blinding oncoming traffic.
