Default Overhead Console Display/Functions

Just did the fix for my overhead console on my XLT. I don't have a manual for the truck but was wondering if there are any functions other than the outside temp and compass displays? If not, does the overhead console for the Lariat or top of the line King Ranch have a better overhead console with more functions?

My 2002 Ram had a overhead console that also showed distance till gas tank empty and gas mileage so hoping there's the same for the F150's of 97-03 vintage.

My plan is to throw a tpms head unit in there and get a mirror with temp and direction instead of keeping the stock display there. The workaround for my 98 seemed way too complicated to make the wiring for the stock stuff work, and not nearly as accurate as the aftermarket mirror would be.

I cut out my 98 headliner to match the hole...just waiting on the headliner material to come in. I had to drill new holes for the narrower 2002 visors and gorilla glue a 1x6 plank I cut down as a backer to screw the center screws in. Only concern I see might be the flatter profile of the 98 headliner backer as compared to the 2002 which has ridges and pockets, but if need be I can block out sections of it to make it look seamless against the overhead console.

Only issue I see after that is the green acrylic face not matching all my blue led replacements in the interior so I'm probably going to get a sheet of smoked acrylic and heat form it to match the old one. The fun never ends with modding...

Also I don't know any other stock functions besides direction and temperature. The expeditions have climate controls though.

The compass doesn't work and higher end trucks with eatc do not have the temperature in the console because it's already on the dash.

In short I'd say don't even waste your time with it it's pretty much a worthless thing. I think the expedition had a few more things but I don't think you can get them.

There are threads in the past of people installing consoles and hooking things up to make them work. If you look at the display in a glancing light there is a lot of stuff the display is capable of showing.... Doubtful that Ford ever used a fraction of that.

Its already fixed and even for just the outside temp the limited effort needed is worth it to me, luckily the compass works in mine but not like I'm going to use that really.

I saw what you mean with the display having other stuff capable of showing, shame they didn't give it more functions like the DTE and mileage tracker.
