The starter relay is the starter solenoid. They're the same thing. But with the guy jumping across it to get it to start, that's a red flag it's bad.
To answer your question about ignition and the lights though, no that doesn't mean it's ok.
The start circuit of the switch is independent of the accessory and run circuit on the switch.

Wasn't aware there was another on the starter, so I learned something today. I guess there would have to be to throw the bendix?

hi ....sorry i worked a 12 hour shift and just got home, ...buddy did some funky wiring and tbe truck started he had wired from battery to solenoid i think....lol and starte the truck, but it died the battery is not holding a charge ,,,,is it true that ìnterstate battteries`once they #are completely drained do not recharge they are garbage....i know my other vehcile i had a ford taurus, when the alt went in that so did the battery, and it makes s4ense that the battery would be screwed as well....but im curtious about the interstate battery info i heard today....hav eyou ever heard about thatÉ anyways just sstarting a new job last week and trying to ge tthe money together to go buy a new selenoid and battery, or sould i do one first then the other....advise would be appreciated, or should i buy a voltage reader first to find out forsure......the other dumbass that promisd to bring me a voltage reader didnt show...man i have good friends...lmao. ok funny funny....im opff to bed have to put in a another 12-14 hr shift tomorrow......thansk for all your advice boys..your wonderful...

It's actually a solenoid. Its what it is called. The one on the starter is also a solenoid. These trucks have to. One to carry the high amperage draw of the starter and the other is to engerize the bend as it does not require a lot of amperage. Use a test light an test the lead that goes to the starter solenoid on the fire wall and see if you have voltage when trying to start the truck.

When I searched starter relay on rockauto and found this so naturally believed him.
