Default Bad luck turns to lucky deal

Brakes started grinding metal to metal the other day. I was like wtf. Bought pads and rotors and put them on. The shop where the former owner serviced the truck cut/broke the warning clip off. I know that's an assumption but this shop owner was crooked as they come. Why he dealt with em I'll never know. Anyway I guess the shop guy figured he'd get a good deal next, jokes on him, he went out of business 2 years ago.

One of my center caps was broke when I got the truck. Removing it this time did it in. There is a junk yard a mile or so away so I figured I'd see if they had one. Went in the pouring rain today and asked. They directed me to the main back of the yard where a 70ish f150 sat. I was a little ill at this point. Especially being 3 inches taller from the red clay caked on my shoes. On the way to my truck I spotted a truck like ours. Dug around in the back and found me a center cap. Looked inside and there laid a K&N air filter in great shape. I grabbed em and asked how much I owed him. $10 for my center and a k&n filter. I would have pointed out the obvious that he should have charged more but I'll take the profit of margin to clean my shoes and floormat.

I usually go to pull a part but it was out of the way today. This place pulls front ends, glass and beds and crush the rest. Not sure what their actual prices are but worth checking out again. Thinking of getting an extra intake and do the gotts mod as well. Pull a part is dirt cheap though.

for some reason none of the pick-a-parts here have 97-03 here to pick off of. But when i was there on time a guy was pulling a roush crate engine out of a truck the had been totaled in the rear for 1200.

The one here had a couple with perfect body's. Alot of expeditions and explorers but yeah not many pick ups. Kind of gut wrenching to watch some of the rides there picked apart. I guess repo man can't find them that way??

The yards here get 97-03's in pretty regular but pricing is a bit weird... I got my 99' headlight switch with foglight control for like $15, when it normally runs in the $50 range. They sold the drivetrain out of the same truck for next to nothing too. The truck also had leather buckets, and when I inquired about them, without hesitation it was $400. They weren't in good shape at all so I asked why they were so high, they said there's an upholstery shop down the road that gives top dollar for seats, so they ask a lot. When I asked about an Expedition console he said the body shops pretty much pick the expy's clean as soon as they arrive, the interiors are often sold complete.

Of course that's going back to like 04'... now from what I hear they don't allow customers in the yard at all. You tell the counter guy what you want and they pick it for you. I guess someone got hurt and sued...

Wow. That place is a pull a part? The one here you have to sign a waiver when you enter the yard. All the prices are the same no matter make/model/year. You can pay extra for a warranty but I'm not going to a yard for anything major. They don't pull anything. All vehicles are up on blocks to where everything is accessible. It's hard to find complete sets of interiors, wheels and engines. I go sometimes just to walk around and see whats there. Kind of like a man mall hahaha
