My parking brake hasn't worked since I bought the truck. I have been putting off tearing it apart as I knew I would probably end up spending money that I don't have.
Today I decided to tear it apart to see what was going on. With the truck being in as good as condition as it is, I was surprised to see the brakes as neglected as they were. Now I know why I had to strong leg the pedal to get her to stop.

The rear brakes on both sides had pads completely broken off their plates. The parking brakes were just steel bands laying in there held together by the springs, everything rusted together.The front brakes were a little better off, just chunks missing out of the pads, not much touching the rotors.
So after 4 new rotors, 4 new ceramic brake pads, parking brake shoes and hardware kit, I now have good brakes.
Had to be done though, it was an accident waiting to happen. I tow my boat around through the mountains alot also.
One more project I can cross off of my list. Just spent too much money, and got way too dirty for such a nice afternoon.

Best part is that I finally got rid of the darn rattle I have been looking for ever since I bought the truck. WOO HOO !!!!

Hard to believe the previous owner let things go. Glad to see you fixed it. Now you'll have a long time till next brake service.

Its amazing what some people let go. Why anyone would let their brakes that their lives depend on get to that level is beyond me.
