engine swap start up
Hello, I have a 97 F150 4.6l that I swapped out with a 99 F150 4.6l. It took me a while to put it in and fix some of the little stuff. But I tried turning it over the first time and the starter was wired wrong with having 4 lines off it, fixed but now I'm getting a grinding noise. This is my first motor I'm pulling. Any help or suggestions?

Sounds like the starter is not making good contact with the flexplate. Are the teeth worn on either? Definitely check to make sure the transmission and engine are mated properly. Can you feel the engine or starter turn over at all?

The truck vibrates and it sounds like the flywheel is turning just not fast or catching, like how an old engine has turned over in a long time. Sorry.for the bad description. I'm gonna get this truck going no matter what lol

Check the connections on all of your grounds (motor to body, body to frame, frame to battery). Was there any shims from the old motor? One of the easiest things to do is pull the starter and have it tested. Which starter did you use by the way?

It's grounded haven't checked the starter yet it's from advance auto.it sounds like the flywheel is turning and scraping or brushing something. There was a plate that went between the motor and trans housing that I put in with this one. I also switched the torque converter with the one that was attached to the 99 model.

If you have a second set of eyes/ears, have them get under and see if they can pinpoint the sound

Its probably the flexplate rubbing on the dust sheild. You don't have a flywheel unless you're a 5 speed. May help in troubleshooting to clarify if you're automatic or manual.

It sounds like it wasn't seated properly and forced together trashing the rotor pump
