You don't HAVE to, but it sure helps.. If you are semi flexible,you can pull the panel out enough to get into it. But if you want to run new wires etc.. I would just take the seat out. Its handy if you intend on putting a sub under the the rear seat or anything like that too..

I removed mine last weekend, it will make it alot easyier to remove the panel and get to the wires. Hope you have a good breakr bar for the bench bolts, lol.
